Updates to 12th Edition
It happens every time. The day after we send the files off to the printers for our brand new edition, somebody changes something that directly affects what we write. Several times we’ve e-mailed these changes to the printers. (It’s our only chance to yell that classic publisher line, Stop the presses!) But after the presses roll we’re left shaking our heads, saying, “Yeah, we know that changed. We’ll correct that in our next printing.” The internet is the next best thing to yanking back all the books in print and scribbling in the changes that always occur.
At Wizard Publications we continually strive to bring you the most up-to-date and accurate information on the islands. We are the only publisher who updates our books every time we reprint them. So if you see the updates below already listed in the book you just bought, you may have a recent printing.

- Maui Fires and Recovery — On August 8th and 9th, 2023, catastrophic fires destroyed Lahaina and parts of Upcountry Maui. Recovery will be ongoing for a while but the local government and community request that visitors return to Hawai‘i and the areas of Maui not directly impacted by the fires. Maui needs your support, in every sense of the word. You can find more information on the situation and how you can help on our blog pages.
- (OK, this isn’t really an update but we thought we’d put it in here to help avoid confusion). We’ve gotten a few emails asking us why the time-saving road linking Wailea with Kula upcountry isn’t on our maps (though it is on other maps). At the risk of sounding self-serving, the other maps are slightly… not right… OK they’re wrong! That road is private, gated and not accessible. We won’t print it if we haven’t driven it. Same for the Oprah Highway…
- Sunshine Helicopters (pg 180-183) bid Hawai‘i a fond aloha. Wishing them well.
- Maui Easy Riders (pg 187) is not doing bike tours at this time.
- Fishing (pg 208) licenses are now required. Visit: dlnr.hawaii.gov/dar/
- Expeditions Lanai Ferry (page 198) price for round trip from Maui to Lanai is now $132 for adults and $68 for kids.
- All About Fish Maui (pg 210) no longer offers gear for rent, but has some used gear for sale.
- Hula Girl (pg 192 & 200) the reservations number should be 808-665-0344.
- B&B SCUBA (pg 241) is closed.
- Kamaha‘o: A Marilyn Monroe Spa (pg 247) is closed at the Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa. We expect they will get another one or have to change the name of the resort.
- Flyin’ Hawaiian Zipline (pg 253) is closed for now.
- There is a mistake on page 314 in South Maui Lu‘au. We mistakenly placed the Honua‘ula Lu‘au title, address and phone where the Te Au Moana at the Marriott should be and said it was “second choice.” It should say “solid option”. The correct address and phone for the Te Au Moana is 3700 Wailea Alanui Dr, Wailea, phone: 877-827-2740. The price is now $225 adults, $155 kids 6–12.
- Feast at Lele prices have shot up to adults at $193 (kids 2–12 are $104).
- Huaka‘i Lu‘au is moving and is closed for now.
- Island Fresh Café phone number is now 808-495-3133.
- Ko has been redone with a new menu. We will be back to review it soon.
- Kula Lodge has new owners, we will be to re-review them soon.
- Moonsoon India is now called Monsoon Bar & Grill.
- Ohana Seafood Bar & Grill is now called….Ohana’s Island Bistro & Music. We will re-review them shortly.
- Outrigger Pizza Company moved to 20 Alahele Pl, Kihei. We have not yet had a chane to visit again. We will soon.
- Volcano Bar is now Wailea Surf Haus. We’ve not yet had a chance to revisit them.
- Dog & Duck Irish Pub is closed.

- Lava Rock Bar & Grill is pau.
- Maui Brewing Co. (Kahana location) is closed.
- Maui Farmers Market & Deli closed in Honokowai, but is open at 61 S Kihei Rd, Kihei.
- Saltwater Deli is closed but looking for a possible new location.
- Southshore Grinds is pau.
- Stewz Maui Burgers is closed.
- Tante Ma‘alaea Restaurant & Bar is pau.
- Yak & Yeti is closed.
