Westin Maui Resort & Spa

by | Mar 15, 2012

This resort prides itself on two things: their pools and the beach. And their boasts ring true. Their part of Ka‘anapali Beach is outstanding. This is the kind of beach scene you’ll always remember. The pools consist of an outrageous 87,000-square-foot water playground that includes two waterslides and waterfalls, swim-through grotto, a family-friendly pool and an adults-only pool.

The larger Beach Tower rooms achieve their goal of “modern luxury” with their trademark Heavenly Beds and tasteful decor. The Ocean Tower building has smallish rooms with modern decor, including showers-only with handhelds in all bathrooms and glass paneling on lanais for a less-obstructed view. They have a long list of items that guests may request, including “Heavenly” dog beds and “Heavenly Cribs” for your other little angel.

They have a full wedding services department. Many activities—such as coconut husking, lei making, botanical and wildlife tour, fish feeding and a few other things—are provided by their “Fun Team.” They even show you how to put a gecko to sleep (not permanently). Their children’s programs include a night camp program to unload the keiki for $60. The day program is $80 per day and includes lunch. They don’t offer these programs every day at certain times of the year. Couples can enjoy a 3-course sunset dinner by the beach starting at $400 and up. The casabella chairs (two chairs and a retractable cover) and cabanas range from $75–$200 by the beach or pool (depending on type, location and amenities). Their fitness room offers personal trainers for a fee as well as classes daily from yoga to spin and others for an extra fee.

In short, the Westin is a pleasant place with a dynamite location. It tends to feel busier and more crowded than other resorts in the area. Don’t need daily housekeeping? Opt for their “The Green Choice” program, and get a $5 food and beverage voucher or 500 Starpoints per room for each day you don’t use housekeeping services (excluding departure). Rooms (380–450 sq. ft.) are $579–$969, suites (700–2,063 sq. ft.) are $1,420–$3,540. They also offer many specials on their website.
