Hard to believe that the owners only paid $53,000 for this prime oceanfront location back in 1947. Owned by a military family who raised their children here over the years, this 1.5-acre gated property still has a relaxing family feel. The grounds are very tropical with hammocks and picnic tables scattered about.
The six buildings (many moved from the old Haleiwa Hotel) have changed and been updated with the last one added in 2010. One of the best spots to watch North Shore surfing in the winter is from their large beachfront patio with BBQs for guests to use. All the units have a similar decor—a little bamboo here, a Hawaiian print there and a full kitchen, but no telephones. They do a lot of small weddings here and have many repeat visitors. In fact, they book up to a year and half in advance, but you may find an opening here and there if you didn’t plan ahead. There is no A/C in most units (only in some garden view bedrooms), but you really don’t need it here. Just open up the doors/windows and let the breezes flow through. Even though this is run like a hotel, there is a cleaning fee for each unit.
