Halepuna Waikiki far up shot from building and ocean seen on the side

This hotel has a modern design theme, but the rooms seem to try to blend old and new furnishings with mixed results. The color scheme now matches Halekulani, their sister property across the street, with pale blues and neutrals. There are no grounds, but the place is clean and comfortable, and rooms are well-appointed. Their spa pool and infinity lap pool offer a view that melts into the ocean. There’s also a garden on the same level and a pool bar for drinks.

Lanais not directly facing the ocean are standing-room only, but the eighth-floor rooms have giant lanais. Some standard rooms face the parking garage. Bump up to a “mountain view,” if you care about having one. And “deluxe ocean view” means they’re up high enough to peek over the Halekulani , which sits between them and the ocean. The fitness room overlooks the pool, so if you use it, you’ll be an inspiration to every lazy couch potato lounging around in the water. Enjoy free entrances to both the Bishop Museum and Honolulu Museum of Art when you flash your key card.

You’ll have signing privileges at the Halekulani’s restaurants and spa (but you can’t use their pool). Rooms are 288 sq. ft., suites are 619–729 sq. ft. They have different packages available. You’ll walk about a block to the nearest beach.
