Despite being a long walk from the beach, this is one of the more well-known hotels in the area—especially for local, interisland travelers. The property (with its two towers—the Kona and the Waikiki) sits just outside Waikiki, next door to the Ala Moana Shopping Center and not far from the convention center. Business travelers and convention attendees make up much of their customer base. The lobby can feel stark and even unwelcoming at times, especially when lines at the counter get a little too lengthy (but some of that is just the nature of hotels in this area). Despite what feels like an overwhelming amount of cement, the room colors and furnishings are relaxing and modern, though not overly Hawaiian in feel. Rooms are very small and less expensive in the Kona Tower and have no lanais. The pool area is prettier since recent renovations but mainly functions just as a place to get wet. It’s a doable but fairly long walk into Waikiki and its beaches and restaurants, and you likely won’t feel much draw to explore the immediate area. But it’s also quicker when you’re looking to hop on the freeway. In all, you need to decide if the location trade-offs are worth it. Rooms are 246–335 sq. ft., suites are 560 sq. ft.
