Hilo Bay Hostel

by | May 24, 2016

A very nice hostel with bright, very clean rooms and shared spaces, including the kitchen. The extra effort put into the place really shows. It’s on the second floor of a historic building built in 1913 on a busy corner in downtown Hilo, so expect road noise. Lockers available for the dorms, but BYOT (bring your own towel or buy one from them). There are computers in the the lobby (as well as a pay phone, but it’s only for decoration), and the kitchen is fully stocked (free coffee) with cooking paraphernalia for your convenience. They do have fans, but this place can get hot, especially during sweltering summer months. Dorms for up to six people per dorm. Standard private rooms (approx. 200 sq. ft.) with fridge and shared bath (towels included), deluxe private rooms also have a fridge and their own bath (towels included), one to two people per room or an additional charge per extra body. If you have a large group of 25 or more, they may rent you the whole place. They charge both refundable (with 48 hours advance notice) and non-refundable rates.
