What a great spot for this small inn! A serene, white, Victorian-style, lovingly-maintained home sits on over 3 acres overlooking Pohaku Manu Bay about 13 miles north of Hilo with its great ocean breezes, dolphins and whales (in season) in plain view. Hawaiian antiques can be found at every turn. Hot full breakfast is served on an open-air lanai every day (or there’s a continental breakfast option for late-risers), high tea on some Saturdays by reservation. Snacks and drinks are available in the lounge for reasonable prices. Spa services can be arranged. The owner makes beautiful wedding cakes and hosts many weddings here. (This property is very photogenic). The rooms are all different, spacious and richly furnished with an ocean view. We like rooms 1, 4, 5, and 8 best for their large Jacuzzi tubs facing the ocean and gas fireplaces (not that you’ll be needing them). All rooms have large showers. They have free local calls here and your cell phone may not get reception at this property. Free room safes (you need a quarter but get it back when you return key to lock). There are DVD players with nearly 600 free DVDs to choose from. Only upstairs rooms have a/c. They will make special arrangements for you, such as allergy-free rooms, special pillows, dinners, etc. Great staff here and an easy place to recommend; you may not want to leave.
