65-1444 Kawaihae Rd, Waimea
Built in 1897 as a Parker Ranch manager’s house, it’s been converted into a charming inn. Think of it as the kind of inn that Mark Twain would have stayed at a century ago in a beautiful setting. There are eight rooms and a cottage that backs up to a stream, each with its own theme in purple (the color of jacaranda trees) and quaintly furnished, with free WiFi in main house. Some rooms have TVs, but none has a phone—one is available in main house. No guest laundry. Each has a private bath and entrance. Most bathrooms have double Jacuzzi tubs—very romantic. The property was a bit rough around the edges on our last visit, but that does add to some of its charm, and upkeep is ongoing. Rooms (454–665 sq. ft.) are $149–$199, 3/3 cottage with kitchen (1,695 sq. ft.) is $250–$450 for two up to six people. 3-night minimum.
